Blå Hus는 덴마크어로 '파란 집(Blue House)'을 뜻한다. 덴마크에서 가장 오래된 도시 Roskilde에 위치한 이 협소주택은 1950년대에 지어진 벽돌 건물을 재건축 수준으로 리노베이션하고, 위층은 경량목구조로 증축해 완성됐다. 기존 주택의 외벽을 이루고 있는 벽돌 위로 단열재를 덧대고, 그 위에 파란 스틸 슬레이트를 입혀 Blå Hus의 외관이 완성됐다. 주택의 파사드는 안개가 끼거나 비가 내리는 등 북유럽 특유의 음울한 날씨에도 선명한 모습으로 눈에 띄며 밝은 분위기를 자아낸다.

The blue house is located on top of a small hill in western part of Roskilde near Copenhagen. By making the house tall and narrow the view over the fjord and towards the medieval city center can be enjoyed. The color of the façade makes the house blend in with the dark blue hues of the Scandinavian sky. On foggy and rainy days the house emanates its bright colorful optimism against the desaturated background by highlighting the blue tones of the grey mist.

The main living space is spread over two floors. On the mid floor an open kitchen and dining room, grows out into the garden through a large terrace facing southwest. The upper level provides a living room with a large corner window overlooking the fjord and cathedral as well as a balcony for enjoying the sunsets.

Blå Hus의 주요 공간은 2개 층에 걸쳐 구성되어 있다. 지상층에는 개방형 주방과 다이닝 공간이 남서쪽의 테라스와 연결되어 있으며, 위층은 거실과 두 개의 침실로 이루어진다. 거실의 모서리에는 깊이감이 있는 창을 두었으며, 이를 통해 창가에 걸터앉아 햇살을 받으며 시간을 보낼 수 있는 공간을 구성했다. 자녀들이 사용하는 개인 공간은 각자의 취향을 반영해 디자인됐다. 그림 그리기를 좋아하는 아들의 방은 기다란 평면으로 설계됐으며, 이곳에서는 창 너머 피오르와 성당의 풍경을 파노라마 뷰를 볼 수 있도록 했다. 활발하고 장난기 많은 딸 아이의 방은 다락과 연결, 사다리를 타고 주택의 가장 높은 곳까지 오르내릴 수 있는 재미있는 공간으로 완성했다.

The two children rooms each got an individual character, just like their inhabitants. While one room is horizontal with a panorama window along the drawing desk, the other one is vertical with a loft bed that includes a small window at the highest point of the house. The upper level is a lightweight wooden construction built on top of an old brick house from the 1950’s. To add extra insulation to the existing lower part, a layer of corrugated steel works as climate shield on all facades and the roof. This way the extended house appears as one coherent blue monolith.
